Masonry Water Problems

Protect Your Investment

There are about 40 million chimneys in North America. The most common problems with these chimneys is water coming through. Water causes over 1 billion dollars in damage each year. This causes staining, freeze-thaw damage, and structural failure. All chimneys (new and old) can get water damage and – even if a chimney sweep repairs it – it will continue to happen if protection isn’t applied.

As Cincinnati, Ohio’s masonry contractors, we are experts in chimney protection.

Preventing Water Damage

Chimneys are highly exposed to a lot and if left unprotected, they are susceptible to problems. It is important to address these problem before serious damage occurs.

Superior Technology

ChimneySaver comes with a 10-year warranty and is the first water repellent designed to protect chimneys from severe weather conditions. ChimneySaver is a WATER REPELLENT – not a water sealer. This difference could save you hundreds, even thousands of dollars in repairs. This is because sealers can actually damage masonry. Unlike waterproofing sealers that remain on the surface and trap water vapors, ChimneySaver gets into the brick deep enough to protect masonry from damaging water penetration.

ChimneySaver contains a silicon mixture that can penetrate the smallest of pores. The special mixture forms bonds in masonry and concrete. Because of this process, just one application of ChimneySaver provides up to ten times the water protection of typical sealers.

100% Breathable

Moisture from a variety of sources is often present in masonry and concrete. Sealers and silicone coatings form a water resistant surface which traps water vapor. If these vapors can’t escape, it will cause spalling and freeze-thaw damage. ChimneySaver offers the best protection because it releases water vapors and reduces water absorption.

Superior Value

The added benefits of protecting your masonry with ChimneySaver® are obvious when making compared with popular retail brands of water sealers.

Long-Term Protection

ChimneySaver is long-term protection. It helps prevent expensive repairs. The first step in preventing water damage is to make the right repairs. This includes: structural cracks, damaged crowns, crumbling bricks, and loose mortar joints. The second step is to protect porous masonry from further water penetration by applying ChimneySaver water repellent. This protection is always needed when a new chimney liner has been installed. If repairs are not made, the old chimney will continue to fall apart around the new liner.

Use On All Masonry Surfaces

Not just for chimneys, ChimneySaver water repellent is the choice for protecting all masonry. ChimneySaver is the best solution for a variety of masonry applications including, patios, walkways, pool decks, and wall systems.

Addressing Water Concerns

At American Chimney and Masonry we will do everything to the best of our ability to help the customer resolve any water problems. However, we would like to stress that we cannot guarantee that any repairs we do will stop the water problem entirely.

With your knowledge and agreement, we attempt to resolve water problems using a process of elimination. This starts with the smallest repair and as we gradually find possible entry points along the way. When in doubt, we suggest that the customer apply water to the chimney. This should begin at the lowest point and gradually work up. This helps to pinpoint where the water is entering the chimney.

Furthermore, these are possible entry points to check:

  1. Chimney Cap
  2. Crown Wash
  3. Brick and Mortar Joints
  4. Shoulders
  5. Flashing
  6. Corbels
  7. Furnace and Water Heater Flues
  8. Internal Water Problem
  9. Foundation, Downspouts, Drain Tile
  10. Roof

In conclusion, these are among the most common points of entry. Using our professional opinions, we hope to resolve the water problem as orderly as possible.
